Computer security, biometric systems and legal issues

In order to address security requirements related to confidentiality, authentication, integrity, controlled access, and resource availability, DISI's research activity in this area encompasses several directions, ranging from the classification and analysis of mechanisms and services to cope with intentional attacks, to the design of security models and mechanisms at both infrastructural and application levels. In addition to computer security, DISI is also active in the investigation of legal aspects related to computer science, such as data privacy and protection, with particular reference to sensitive data; other aspects of interest concern the ethical and social implications induced by, or related to, the more purely technical aspects of computer systems. Finally, the research of the department also deals with the biometric area, providing tools for identity verification or identification of people based on physiological characteristics such as fingerprint or iris, or behavioral such as writing or typing style.
